Position description

The International Youth Foundation (IYF), a global nonprofit organization that works to improve the lives of young people worldwide, is seeking a Web Writer to join its Marketing and Communications team. The person hired for this position will create smart, engaging content for distribution through our website, social media channels, and print publications and will function as an integral part of a small team that thrives on hard work, collaboration, and a sense of humor. The ideal candidate will be a savvy communications professional with marketing experience who knows how to reach online audiences effectively. Draft interesting, shareable content that engages audiences, helps grow IYF’s online presence, and furthers the organization’s strategic objectives


  • Work with the Editorial Manager to produce compelling, relevant, and factually accurate content for timely distribution to IYF audiences.
  • Write online and print content, including blog posts, HTML email blasts, fact sheets, subscription campaigns, annual reports, and press releases.
  • Conduct desk research on specific thematic topics, as assigned.
  • Identify relevant and interesting third-party content that can become curated posts on the IYF blog.
  • Interview internal and external stakeholders, as assigned.
  • Input and update content on the IYF content management system (CMS).
  • Participate in monthly editorial team meetings.
  • As part of the Marketing and Communications team, contribute to a broader effort to train other IYF staff to better understand blogging, storytelling, photography, and design concepts.
  • Support IYF’s social media presence, including identifying third-party content to share on IYF’s accounts, drafting tweets and LinkedIn and Facebook posts (as assigned), and facilitating staff participation in online forums (as assigned).


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proven ability to write clear, concise, and compelling content for online audiences.
  • Demonstrated understanding of online communications and best practices, including SEO, keywords, and social media.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a small, dynamic team.
  • Takes direction for assignments but demonstrates initiative in researching topics and presenting ideas for writing projects.
  • Superior organization, planning, and project management skills.
  • Ability to identify and establish priorities, work independently, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to identify problems in a timely manner, make recommendations toward solving problems, and work well in group problem-solving situations.
  • Possess outstanding interpersonal communication skills which must be effective and courteous, requiring high integrity when dealing with a broad array of cultures and languages.
  • Basic understanding of content management systems (CMS) and HTML.
  • Proficient in the use of the full Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Azendoo or other online project management tools, desired.
  • Fluency in a second language, preferred.

Required Experience

  • Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or other related area preferred.
  • 3+ years of writing experience
  • 3+ years of work experience preferred in a communications-related capacity, ideally within youth development, a non-profit, or another international organization.
