Position description

Strategic and Global Initiatives is seeking an Associate Vice Provost for Global Engagement to promote, quantify and manage USC’s internationalization efforts.

In consultation with the Vice President, the Associate Vice Provost promotes internal and external relationships partnering with the Dornsife College and USC’s professional schools, as well as the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid on undergraduate and graduate recruitment strategies and mechanisms to increase the number and quality of applicants to USC’s degree programs. This position will have direct responsibility for developing new markets for international students and academic affiliations and initiatives as well as lead the coordination of USC-wide projects, in partnership with the College and schools, Admission and Planning, Student Affairs, USC’s Graduate School, and University Advancement.  The AVP for Global Engagement leads the international agreement approval process for the university. The Associate Vice Provost will also develop policy options and provide recommendations for consideration to the Vice President, stay current and informed on academic and research issues at USC, participate in the strategic decision-making with regard to the development of potential new relationships with governments, the private sector and the community at large.  This position manages the staff, consultants, and provides day to day dirction to USC’s overseas offices.

Qualifications & Skills 

  • Experience and demonstrated ability to work effectively with representatives from international universities and agencies as well as the private sector.
  • Experience and understanding of international development projects and entrepreneurial projects that involve a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience in policy development and analysis.
  • Experience in quantitative analysis.
  • Experience writing proposals.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, organizational, supervisory, problem-solving, analytical and supervisory skills.
  • Effective computer skills.
  • An ability to work with the big picture while not losing sight of the details.
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to travel internationally.
  • Knowledge of USC policies, faculty and student procedures and functions, as well as other administrative units’ policies, practices, and systems and be capable of providing interpretations and advising on these policies preferred.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Graduate level degree required, Master’s in international relations, business, education or a related specialty. 

Minimum of 10 years experience promoting university and/or business international outreach and engagement.
