The United Kingdom’s Joint Delegation to NATO is the vital link between the UK Government and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Its principal roles are to promote British interests in NATO and to keep UK Ministers and Government Departments informed about NATO discussions and is now looking for a Policy Officer for the UK Delegation to NATO in Brussels (UKDEL).
Initial responsibilities would be to further UK strategic interests within NATO. The job holder will be responsible for securing UK objectives on a range of security and defence policy issues in NATO, liaising with the FCO and MOD to formulate UK positions before negotiating these in NATO Committee meetings. UKDEL NATO sits at the heart of UK Defence. Its work is valued highly by FCO and MOD Ministers alike.
The job holder will work in a delegation dealing with the largest range of challenges NATO has faced since the end of the Cold War, with conflict in Syria, Islamic State terrorism and a resurgent and non-compliant Russia.
As with all jobs in the Delegation, we promote an adaptable and responsive approach, which means the job is likely to evolve over time to deal with changing circumstances and priorities. We can ensure that it will be fastmoving and enjoyable, with plenty of scope for policy development and delivery and will offer a great opportunity at the heart of a delegation delivering core foreign, defence and security aims for HMG.
The job holder will focus on NATO’s Projecting Stability activities: co-operating with regional partners and international organisations to strengthen security outside NATO territory.
