Position description

As Managing Director for Geopolitical and Political Risk analysis of the Asia-Pacific Region for Ankura, you will be responsible for helping clients navigate a complex and uncertain business environment in Asia.  This will help our clients understand and manage their exposure to security and political risk across the world and make better business decisions. The Managing Director (MD) for Asia-Pacific regional analysis is the subject matter expert on all Asia-Pacific geopolitical-related matters within the Geopolitical Business Practice. The MD manages Ankura’s Asia regional analytic team and synchronizes efforts between the team and company executives in support of the firm’s vision and culture. The MD must be intimately familiar with your clients’ objectives and challenges to help them navigate risk. The MD is responsible for professional development, standards of performance, product development, team composition, and capabilities. The MD also serves as a key advisor to company executives and as a spokesperson for the organization during external events. The MD provides strategic recommendations for business opportunities, partnerships, industry trends, technology innovation, and other critical decisions. Managing a team of junior colleagues, the MD supervises and produces current events analysis, risk mitigation strategies, forecasting scenarios, country risk deep dives and geocyber threat assessments.


  • 8-12 years of practical experience in the intelligence analysis profession or a graduate degree in Intelligence Operations, Political Science, International Relations, or similar program from an accredited university plus 4-8 years of practical experience
  • 5-8 years of experience successfully leading organizations, overseeing daily operations, training subordinates, and interacting with senior organizational leaders and clients
  • Asia-Pacific regional expertise
  • 2+ years of experience working in commercial geopolitical risk business
  • Mandarin or other East Asian language desired

  • Able to motivate, inspire and lead a team
  • Must have strong writing, briefing and speaking skills, and be able to communicate clearly and concisely to an executive audience
  • Possess expert knowledge of open source research techniques, and/or intelligence processes, cycles, and organizations.Excellent organizational skills
  • Able to adapt quickly in handling multiple/evolving tasks as a result of new engagements and/or re-prioritized deadlines
  • Highly motivated and eager to learn'
  • Able to mentor and develop junior colleagues and build effective teams
  • Able to produce high quality and/or final work product under strict deadlines
  • Flexibility to travel as required
