Position description

Macmillan International Higher Education is a cutting-edge publisher of textbooks and learning resources for university level students. Our ambition is to develop relevant and impactful course content that serves the needs of educators and supports the success of today's students. Our policy is always to think content first – finding you the best possible textbook for your course and supporting that with carefully built and appropriate technology solutions and interactive e-learning products.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the editorial team at Macmillan International Higher Education, the division within Macmillan Education which publishes innovative textbooks and learning materials for students in higher education around the world.

We are seeking a talented individual to provide advanced editorial support for the Publishers and Commissioning Editors across our highly-regarded textbook lists in Politics and International Relations, Sociology and Business. The role will involve – but will not be limited to – delivering key projects from the forward programmes (which will involve close reading of selected key titles); co-ordinating reviews of proposals and draft manuscripts; drafting internal proposal documentation; briefing cover and page designs; and to commission, under guidance from the Publishers and Commissioning Editors, selected new projects, new editions and series.

Qualifications

The ideal applicant for this role will:

  1. be an energetic and highly self-motivated all-rounder;
  2. be determinedly market-focused, with a passion for developing textbooks that take inspiration from emerging trends on Higher Education courses and an ability to prioritise tasks relating to the most commercially profitable projects;
  3. have experience of working collaboratively with colleagues at different levels of the organisation, and of building strong relationships with external contacts;
  4. convey an understanding of and a passion for the subjects;
  5. possess some experience of working in an academic publishing environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to take the next step in their publishing career across three highly successful lists, with our titles and authors recognised, respected and adopted around the world.

The position will be based in our central London offices (in King’s Cross). Some university campus travel will be required in the UK, along with key conference attendance.

We offer 25 days holiday a year, career development and training, a competitive salary, season ticket loans, private healthcare, a contributory pension scheme, employee assistance program, discounts on gym memberships and a range of other benefits.
