Position description

Foreign Policy Group (FP) is recruiting a full-time journalist to report and write smart, value-added stories about American foreign policy, national security and other issues.  The reporter should be versatile enough to write about North Korea one day and trade policy the next, should be comfortable writing news, analysis, profiles and features, should have the discipline of a wire journalist and the sensibility of a magazine writer. We’re a collaborative team so candidates need to work well with others and be ready to share information and bylines.  

  • Write stories about foreign policy, national security and other issues
  • Closely follow developments in these areas and pitch original story ideas
  • Continually gather news and develop sources
  • Arrange and conduct interviews
  • Other duties as assigned


  • A substantive understanding of issues related to diplomacy, defense and foreign policy
  • At least five years of journalism experience
  • Self starter with demonstrated writing and reporting skills 
  • Ability to work across a variety of platforms, including print and online
  • Able to collaborate with other reporters
