Position description

Concordis seeks an experienced Programme Manager to oversee our peacebuilding work in Central African Republic and at least other country.  Based in London but with significant overseas travel for up to a month at a time, the successful candidate will be responsible for programme delivery, managing local staff teams, training civil society actors, facilitating workshops and intercommunity dialogue, and advocating programme outcomes to policy makers.

Concordis International is a UK registered peacebuilding charity.  We work impartially alongside those involved in or affected by armed conflict, so that through dialogue they may build relationships of mutual trust and together develop and implement policies that improve human security and lay firm foundations for lasting peace.  We are committed to independence, impartiality and inclusivity and are known for our ability to secure the participation of groups who would otherwise be excluded from dialogue processes.

Concordis’ methodology was developed and implemented in EU-funded programmes in Sudan and South Sudan, facilitating dialogue between migrating populations and settled land owners.  Independent evaluation of these dialogues found that the work was “unprecedented” and achieved “highly successful results” in mitigating conflict arising out of cross-border migration.

Concordis has confirmation of funding for a new, three year programme in CAR to facilitate peaceful seasonal migration in the north of the country.  We also have applications pending to continue existing programmes in Cote d’Ivoire, Mauritania and South Sudan.

Concordis believes that building relationships of trust and respect with and between those with whom it works is an important key to successful intervention in peace processes.  All members of Concordis staff are required to conform to and to advance Concordis’ values.

The Programme Manger will:

  • Take on responsibility for programme delivery of a second programme once funding is confirmed. This is likely to be for work in Abyei, on the border between Sudan and South Sudan;
  • In respect of both programmes, deliver training to civil society actors and project partners in facilitated dialogue, conflict analysis, conflict management, organisational management, fundraising, financial reporting, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Build networks of key actors, securing participation in the programmes of those who might otherwise boycott or attempt to spoil the process;

  • Ensure Concordis’ compliance with and understanding of national government regulations and laws in all areas of operations;
  • Prepare and edit programme reports for donors, for Concordis’ head office and for publication;
  • Ensure all activities are properly monitored and evaluated and contribute to the evolution of Concordis’ evaluation systems;
  • Fundraise proactively for matched funding and for continuation / expansion of current programming, including beyond the current programme term, identifying fundraising prospects and drafting proposals for national governments, institutional funders and grant-making trusts;
  • Provide support to or management of other programmes as directed;
