Are you a confident line manager, with relationship management experience and expertise in processes and procedures? The Chevening Secretariat has an opportunity for a Senior Programme Officer - International to help manage its team of Programme Officers - International (POI) and to ensure an excellent standard of service to UK Embassies and High Commissions (Posts) in the recruitment, selection and support of Chevening Scholars and Fellows across approximately 160 countries and territories.
Chevening is the global scholarship programme of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). Established in 1983, each year Chevening supports Master's-level study at UK universities for about 1700 individuals, who come to the UK from most regions of the world. It brings established and emerging leaders to the UK for transformational educational experiences of up to one year. Funded by the FCO as part of its Strategic Partnerships, Public Diplomacy and Soft Power activity, the programme is administered by the Chevening Secretariat, hosted by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
Within the International Team, there is one Programme Manager – International (PMI), two SPOIs, six POIs and one Programme Assistant (PA). As a SPOI you will have shared responsibility for the effective people management of the international team through delegation, team development and monitoring performance, along with ensuring the smooth administration of the selection process.
In addition to effective people management, you will be the designated point of contact for a small portfolio of posts (currently China and Hong Kong). Working closely with the PMI and SPOI on administrative policy and procedural development, you will help improve services and the efficiency of their delivery within a complex international context.
