The European Youth Forum (YFJ) is the platform of youth organisations in Europe. We represent 104 youth organisations, which bring together tens of millions of young people from all over Europe.

The Youth Forum works to empower young people to participate actively in society to improve their own lives by representing and advocating their needs and interest and those of their organisations.

In the current uncertain political and social context that affects young people, they can be powerful catalysts for positive change and contributors of innovative solutions to Europe’s challenges.

The Youth Forum will continue our advocacy work to become an agenda-setter on youth affairs, empower member organisations to maximise the impact of their expertise and enforce a rightsbased approach in all that we do.

THE POSITION

The Forum is recruiting a Media & Communications Officer to support in the design and implementation of Yo!Fest 2019 as part of the European Elections 2019 campaign of the Youth Forum.

Building on the success of over 10 editions, Yo!Fest 2019 will take place in the end of April 2019 with the aim of gathering 5,000 young people between the ages of 16 and 30 from across Europe in Brussels.

The Media & Communications Officer will be responsible for marketing the issues of the European Youth Forum’s 2019 Elections campaign to a variety of audiences as well as marketing and communicating Yo!Fest to an international audience.

The Media & Communications Officer will work under the supervision of the Events Team Leader and in close cooperation with the rest of the Yo!Fest team and the Communications Team.

The Media & Communications Officer will have the overall responsibility of designing, developing and implementing communications’ strategy for Yo!Fest 2019.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a media strategy and liaise with EU, national and local media to promote attendance of the event, communication our themes and topics and sharing the outcomes of the event;
  • Develop a communication strategy including core messages translating the objectives of the Yo!Fest and the Youth Forum in a medium and language that is accessible to different audience;
  • Support in the organisation of a televised debate between the lead candidates for the European Commission presidency;
  • Manage and maintain the brand and visual identity and ensure it is protected from third party use;
  • Manage and create content for the existing website and Facebook page of Yo!Fest;
  • Create the content, and supervise the production of, of off-line communications and branding material (leaflets, posters, guidebooks etc.);
  • Manage the external contractors (graphic designers, web developers, printers, photographers, video producers, etc.);
  • Identify and develop promotion and partnership opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Strong and confident communicator with at least 5 years of professional experience in a similar communications or journalism role;
  • Experience of creating and delivering content across multiple digital platforms;
  • Relevant professional experience working at the international level;
  • Advanced level in spoken and written English and French is required;
  • The ability to work flexible hours if required, including occasional weekends;
  • Willing to live in or relocate to Brussels or the surrounding area.

  • Good copywriting, proofing and editing skills.

TERMS OF THE CONTRACT

The European Youth Forum offers a full time (35 hours per week) contract. The contract will start on the recruitment date and will end in August 2018. This position is dependent on external funding. All contractual conditions will be subject to the Grant terms.

The gross monthly salary is 2,754 Euros. Travel expenses within the Brussels region are covered by the European Youth Forum.
