Position description

EurAc is the network of European NGOs active in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda in the areas of foreign relations, development, human rights and humanitarian aid. The network’s 38 members, based in 11 European countries, gather together in EurAc in order to advocate for more coherent diplomatic efforts and political intervention by the European Union (EU) and its Member States as well as by the United Nations.

EurAc's advocacy work is focused on issues related to human rights, inclusive political participation, peace and security and natural resources. The network pushes the international community to respond more effectively to the needs and views of the people in the Great Lakes countries. More information can be found on the network’s website:

The purpose of this position is to provide a general support to EurAc secretariat’s activities especially on communication (external and internal) (45%) and fundraising (40%). However, this position also include support to general logistic and administrative work (15%) including support to meeting and public event organisation. The position based in Brussels is under the supervision of the Communication and Advocacy Officer with strong functional links with the Program and Policy Officer as well as with the Director.

The position will enable valuable work experience in a small, but dynamic team. On-the-job training and other learning opportunities will be provided.

Key responsibilities

Under the supervision and guidance of the Communications Officer, the Communications & Fundraising Intern will contribute to increasing the visibility of EurAc and its members’ activities towards EU stakeholders, promoting common advocacy objectives and messages, and supporting information-sharing with members through the development of targeted communications materials. The Communication and Fundraising Intern will also support the Policy and Program Officer as well as the Director in EurAc fundraising efforts, in particular through the identification of possible donors, the monitoring and follow-up of application processes and the drafting of project proposals. Finally, The Communications & Fundraising intern will support the Secretariat in the organisation of Board and General Assembly meetings and will have the opportunity to prepare and attend advocacy meetings and public events.

External communications and digital outreach:

  • Maintaining a dynamic online presence on the website and social media by sharing the secretariat and members’ activities and news, and contributing to EurAc’s social media advocacy efforts and messages;
  • Producing visual elements to support and enhance EurAc’s social media profile;
  • Contributing to the press review EurAc Info;
  • Contribution to the development of office publications through the copy-editing/proof-reading of texts, and by implementing a clean and consistent layout and design.

Internal communications and support to members’ advocacy work:

  • Supporting the administration and updating of the office intranet in consultation with policy advisors;
  • Contributing to the development of internal tools to facilitate members’ advocacy on EU issues.

Support to Fundraising:

  • Regularly monitoring fundraising opportunities (call for proposal, identification of new donors etc.);
  • Contributing to the development of project proposals,

Event preparation and communications

  • Assisting with event logistics (preparation and organisation) for Board meetings, General Assembly and public events;
  • Assisting with public event communications.



  • University degree in communications/journalism or in political science/international politics and development;
  • Proven interest in advocacy and EU foreign policy and diplomacy;
  • Interest in the African political context and ideally in the Great Lakes region;
  • Previous work experience in the development of project proposals;
  • Previous work experiences in engaging with social media and/or using media to influence public/EU policies is a plus;
  • Good knowledge of the EU institutions and EU policy processes is desirable.


  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Detail-oriented, able to multi-task and take initiative;
  • Ability to work in a team and relate to other colleagues;
  • Good IT skills and knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of  applications;
  • Experience in updating websites and social media outreach;
  • Knowledge of project management tools (i.e ToC, log frame etc.)
  • Knowledge in producing materials for the online environment - notably social media - preferably with photo and video editing tools;
  • Fluency (ideally native speaker), oral and written, in English;
  • Knowledge of French desirable.

The candidate must be available to work for a period of 6 months starting on 7 January 2019.

The candidate must have the legal authorisation to work in Belgium.     

EurAc offers a paid internship regulated under the conditions of the Belgium internship contract called “Convention d’immersion professionnelle” (see more information HERE). Benefits include the coverage of 100% of the public transport travel costs in Brussels.

The internship is based in Brussels, at the Secretariat.
