The departments of International Studies and Political Science at Dickinson College are seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position beginning in academic year 2019-20. A completed or nearly-completed Ph.D. in Political Science, International Relations, or related discipline is required.
Applicants should have a research and teaching focus on Africa, South Asia, or Southeast Asia. The specific sub-field of research can be comparative politics, international relations, security studies (including human security), or other related fields. In addition to teaching upper-level courses in that research area, the successful candidate must demonstrate ability and interest in teaching introductory International Relations and upper-level American Foreign Policy on a regular basis. Candidates should identify in their application letter courses they are prepared to teach and should have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate students in an interdisciplinary liberal arts environment. The yearly teaching load is five courses. The successful candidate is expected to participate fully in the intellectual life of the departments, including serving as one of the oral examiners for the International Studies exams at the end of the academic year. The ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.
Dickinson College is a private, four-year liberal arts college with 2,400 students. It is located 20 minutes west of Harrisburg and is a two-hour drive from Baltimore, Washington DC, and Philadelphia.
