Position description

Established in 1915 with Helen Keller as a founding trustee, Helen Keller International (HKI) is dedicated to saving the sight and lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. Headquartered in New York City, HKI currently conducts programs in 21 countries in Africa and Asia, as well as in the United States.  

HKI has been implementing food fortification programs across West Africa over the past ten years, supporting the development of fortification standards and legislation, capacity building in quality control and food safety, and communication and coordination among civil society and stakeholders at both the country and regional levels.

Duties

The Regional Program Manager is responsible for planning, management, coordinating, implementation and monitoring of the program’s work plan and activities across the target countries to ensure delivery of high quality outputs and timely reporting in line with donor requirements. S/he will provide technical inputs and collaborate with relevant stakeholders at national and regional levels on the implementation of the program’s work-plan. 

The Regional Program Manager is responsible for managing relationships with national governments, research partners, regional economic and health bodies, the private sector, civil society and donors as well as ensuring visibility of the bouillon fortification program by representing HKI and the program at key events.

Qualifications

  • At least a Master’s Degree in Food Technology, Nutrition, Public Health, or International Development plus a minimum 7 years’ experience implementing food and nutrition programming, working in the food industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Technical skills in food fortification programs and policy development, particularly in West Africa. 
  • Ability to undertake extensive field travel (approximately 35%). 
  • Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with external contacts, as well as internal colleagues; demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain productive relationships with the government, private sector and civil society. 
  • Demonstrated successful experience in managing teams for high productivity. 
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in project planning and organization, as well as personal time management. 
  • English and French fluency, both oral and written. 
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents.
