Position description

The candidate will support a variety of tasks related to renewable energy market and policy analyses in NREL's Strategic Energy Analysis Center. The successful candidate will have strong research and writing skills as well as experience compiling and manipulating large data sets for analysis. 

The candidate will support renewable energy policy, market, financing, and regulatory projects through data collection, literature reviews, industry interviews, writing, coding, and spreadsheet analysis.

 

Key projects include:

• Support analysis of integrating increasing levels of renewable generation, with an international focus. 

• Support research projects examining distributed solar policies, including rate design considerations, integration of storage technologies, evolution of utility business models, and grid benefits from renewable energy.  

The position can be full time (40 hours per week) or part time (15-25 hours per week) beginning in January 2019.

 

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Internship period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Please Note: You will need to upload unofficial transcripts and a letter of recommendation as part of the application process.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and experience in one or more:

  • Master's degree student in environmental studies, economics, law, policy, political studies, international relations, or business, with background in renewable energy, engineering, or other relevant field
  • Experience performing data analysis and visualization using Python or R

  • Renewable energy deployment and technology
  • RE grid integration
  • Clean energy market and policy analysis
  • Electricity regulation
