Position description

Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA is a nonprofit international development organization that delivers technical and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise development, community development, and food security to promote broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil societies. ACDI/VOCA has approximately 50 projects in 30 countries and total revenues of approximately $174 million.


We are seeking a D.C.-based Senior New Business Associate. As part of ACDI/VOCA’s Business Development Group, the Senior New Business Associate is responsible for providing support for 1) Proposal Production, 2) Data Management, and 3) Process Management. This position reports to the Senior Director for Capture and Proposal Development. 



Primary activities include but are not limited to: prepare for, coordinate, and conduct formatting activities for final proposal submissions to clients; work with proposal teams to ensure final outputs from proposal team are completed on schedule; coordinate organizational signatures per proposal requirements and organization best practices; serve as lead compiler of final proposal materials for submission; complete final formatting of proposal materials to ensure proposals meet ACDI/VOCA’s branding requirements, as well as the requirements outlined in the solicitation and/or by the client; coordinate with authorized submitter; ensure proposal teams use proper proposal templates; conduct formatting for other business development materials, as needed; conduct copy editing on submissions to clients, as needed; coordinate with the Communications & Outreach department to develop proposal covers and/or graphics; provide production support for project deliverables, as needed; perform other duties as required to ensure timely and professional submission of proposals; maintain BDG SharePoint active and completed business development subsites; set-up initial opportunity business development SharePoint sites, once efforts are approved; ensure all final, submitted submissions are properly housed in SharePoint subsites; ensure proper organization, consolidation and archiving of proposal files; ensure system is user-friendly for all users; maintain BDG SharePoint libraries related to past performance, accolades, etc., as relevant; maintain BDG SharePoint homepage; conduct onboarding and ongoing training sessions, as needed, on how to access the proposal database and resource sites.


In addition, the Senior New Business Associate will be responsible for supporting new business development processes, under the direction of the Senior Director, by working with staff in BDG and other departments to ensure appropriate business development activities are completed; proactively identify process improvement needs and propose solutions; draft and maintain job aids, as needed, related to BDG processes; cross-train in other BD-related roles and activities, as needed.


Minimum Qualifications include a Master’s degree in International Development, International Relations, Communications, English, Marketing, Journalism, or related field required. Additional years of relevant experience may offset the requirement for an advanced degree. A minimum of four years of business development experience, experience in proposal editing and/or formatting, preferably in response to solicitations from USAID and other funders (such as foundations and corporations) highly preferred. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, including Styles, and Adobe Pro. Knowledge of Illustrator and/or InDesign, a plus. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for formatting and production purposes. Demonstrated experience with SharePoint. Demonstrated experience with Visio. Experience with e-sign software (e.g., Adobe Sign). Superior writing skills, including knowledge of grammar rules and Chicago Manual of Style. Strong interpersonal, communication, and proactive problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and in a team. Proven organizational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and balance multiple priorities. Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed, results-oriented environment at a fast pace. Demonstrated excellence in oral and written presentation abilities. Fluency in English required; additional French and/or Spanish language skills are a plus. Experience working on and/or knowledge of agricultural production, market systems strengthening, and/or food security projects, preferred.
