Newsweek is seeking a full-time editor to lead our weekend coverage. The weekend editor works Thursday through Sunday either in our New York office or remotely. We’re looking for an editor who can edit quickly and cleanly, oversee a team of writers, manage the homepage and assign stories.
The weekend editor should be well versed in multiple topics, including politics, science, world news and any type of breaking news. On weekends you are Newsweek’s leader and director of all coverage. You are responsible for ensuring high-quality coverage that is accurate, fair, and conforms to accepted standards of journalism.
The Newsweek Weekend Editor:
Editing multiple stories a day across multiple beats and topics
Working quickly, yet accurately, to assign breaking news coverage and edit/publish the stories
Spotting trends and developing fresh angles for coverage
Ability to manage a team of writers and help them grow as reporters
Follow AP Style
Forward planning for known news events
Previous online editing experience
Knowledge and experience with SEO and online journalism
