Position description

The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is a global nonprofit organization working for a stronger and more effective United Nations. Established in 1946, WFUNA represents and coordinates a membership of over 100 national United Nations Associations (UNAs) and their thousands of members. WFUNA is the largest international network of people supporting and engaging with the United Nations. WFUNA’s vision is to see a United Nations that is a powerful force in meeting common global challenges and opportunities. WFUNA has offices at UN Headquarters in Geneva, New York and Seoul. 

Responsibilities

Human Resources 

  • Prepare employment, consulting, or internship agreements including relevant tax forms for Finance Officer
  • Look into necessary HR policies
  • Manage onboarding and communicate organization’s policies
  • Handle employee terminations, grievance and other difficult situations in a sensitive, fair and respectful manner
  • Work closely with legal counsel and management to write employee manual, employment agreements and benefits as required
  • Maintain system of tracking attendance and leave
  • Manage Worker’s Compensation Insurance for NY office
  • Oversee Harassment Policy
  • Benefits Administration
  • Prepare visa applications – including L, H1B, E, J1 – as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by the Secretary-General

Administration

  • Liaise with relevant UN entities and building management with regard to office maintenance and upkeep
  • Maintain legal agreements across all offices and coordinate with in country staff as appropriate
  • Responsible for all open legal issues involving the organization – Primary contact with legal services, and UN OLA
  • Recruit pro-bono legal services as necessary
  • Manage insurance policies for the organization, including but not limited to DNO, Medical, Dental, vision, and Medical Benefits Abroad
  • Maintain charitable status of each registered Secretariat Office
  • Ensure that the Organization complies with all legal and regulatory requirements in countries of operation 
  • Manage UN Accreditations and Affiliations including registration and reporting to ECOSOC, DGC and other UN entities
  • Maintain a system of knowledge management for all formal documents across all offices and programs
  • NY Office Maintenance – including supplies, equipment, and work stations
  • Prepare for Executive Committee meetings as well as relevant portions of the Plenary Assembly
  • Manage incoming communication to general phone line in NY and to [email protected] and other relevant accounts
  • Schedule, organize and take minutes of monthly staff meetings
  • Respond to general inquiries by member Associations
  • Participate in shared duties with regard to Membership issues
  • Other duties as assigned by the Secretary-General

Qualifications

  • Degree in Human Resource Management or Nonprofit Management 
  • SHRM certification preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (French and Spanish is a plus)
  • 5+ years of human resources experience in a non-profit, academic, or inter-governmental organization
  • Knowledge of the United Nations, UN entities and stakeholder
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with Salesforce or other similar database
