Position description

The Public Engagement Officer (PEO)—one of two on this team-- is an energetic, experiential educator who has a passion for engaging the public in compelling programs and activities to raise awareness about global issues and inspiring action. The main components of the job are experience design and implementation, and event support. This person enjoys designing and implementing engagement experiences for adults and has a deep respect for Mercy Corps’ mission. The Public Engagement Officer in this role is responsible for helping to design and deliver high-quality educational and engagement experiences to audiences in Mercy Corps’ key strategic markets. S/he will participate (in collaboration with team members) in creating, revising, and branding our programs and materials to ensure consistent Mercy Corps messaging and alignment with Mercy Corps’ mission. The PEO also will lead efforts to develop training, resources and tools for MC staff to deliver simulations and workshops to major donors, field teams, corporate partners and other important stakeholders outside the walls of the Action Center. In addition, s/he will provide support for devising and implementing events (lectures, panel discussions, and other types of engagements) that take place here and in other cities. Occasional travel and evening and weekend hours will be required for this position.
