Northrop Grumman is seeking a Strategy and Analysis Intern who is interested in thinking about future strategic and operational challenges, the future of military aviation, and their implications for U.S. military force development, to join the Aerospace Systems Sector Intern Program. This position will be located in Falls Church, Virginia.


The qualified candidate will become part of the Northrop Grumman’s Global Strategy Mission Solutions. The selected candidate will perform a variety of duties to support a small group that develops strategies and performs analysis to support company aircraft programs.

Summer intern duties could include:

  • Conducting research and analysis on topics related to military aviation, such as aircraft specifications, foreign military capabilities, past and current aircraft acquisition programs, the defense industry, and the employment of aerospace power to achieve national objectives

  • Monitoring defense, Congressional, and aerospace industry news.

  • Attending aerospace and defense-related events and conferences in the DC area, and reporting on the results.

  • Writing short analytical papers and designing high-quality PowerPoint presentations. Proofreading and editing analytical papers for style, grammar and content.



Basic Qualifications

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be majoring in history, political science, international relations, strategic studies, or similar related field.

  •      Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile.  

  •      Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2019.

  •      Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite).

Preferred Qualifications

  •     Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.70/4.0 or higher.

  •     Have demonstrated understanding of strategy and policy relating to aviation, military operations, the defense industry, U.S. foreign and defense policy, or U.S. budgetary processes.

  •     Previous internship/co-op or other work experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular).

  •     Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2019.
