Trickle Up seeks a highly motivated, energetic development professional with strong field-based program experience to serve in a newly created role of Director of Program Quality.   Trickle Up, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, focuses on driving large scale change to help women and the more vulnerable, living in extreme poverty, to gain the confidence and skills necessary to achieve greater economic self-sufficiency and well-being.   Reporting to the Vice President of Programs, the Director of Program Quality is a senior member of the Trickle Up Program Team, responsible for providing strategic leadership to strengthen the quality, impact and alignment of Trickle Up’s programs in Asia, Latin America and West Africa, plus the global Refugee Affairs program underway in multiple locations.

The Director of Program Quality supports regional and program teams in setting programmatic priorities with the aim of demonstrating impact of the Graduation Approach in reducing extreme poverty at the individual/household level and required systems change at the institutional/organizational level. This is a strategic leadership position, currently with no line management responsibilities, based in New York (Trickle Up’s headquarters), that works with teams across Trickle Up’s global operations in New York, Washington DC, Asia, Latin America and West Africa. This position will be required to travel approximately 35-40% of the time to Trickle Up’s global programs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Enhance program quality, coherency and alignment across Trickle Up programs and regional teams, fostering vibrant, effective virtual program quality teams
  • Work with Heads of Program on the development and implementation of regional and program strategies and operational plans 
  • Identify capacity-building needs of staff and partners; develop and oversee capacity development plans
  • Facilitate Program Team to agree on key cross-cutting themes that Trickle Up will prioritize and mainstream within its program strategies
  • Support resource mobilization efforts, including identification of funding needs and support on program design opportunities
  • Represent Trickle Up and engage in key fora to advance Trickle Up’s position and leadership in key thought leadership discussions and events


  • Minimum of a master’s degree in a related field (social sciences, international development studies, agricultural economics, etc.)
  • Minimum of 7 years of living and working overseas with a credible, reputable NGO(s) of a scale beyond one country or country-specific program area; management and oversight of development/humanitarian multi-funded programs; overall 15 years professional experience in the development/humanitarian sector
  • Demonstrated experience leading and/or coordinating strategic planning processes, including overseeing the implementation of accompanying operational plans/roadmaps
  • Demonstrated experience designing/implementing capacity building plans and training programs
