SUMMARY:

The Vice President provides vision, strategic direction and leadership for Americares U.S. Program and the Patient Assistance Program.  

The Vice President manages staff, budget and strategic priorities for major programmatic areas:

1)     Access to Meds: Support to a network of more than 1,000 safety net organizations that provide free and low-cost medical care to the uninsured and underinsured in the U.S

2)     Community Health: Provide strategic direction and quality assurance on implementation of clinic- and community-based programs to meet specific needs and deliver sustained health improvements, including leading a foundational data repository health outcomes program, with a specific focus on Free & Charitable Clinics and Free & Charitable Clinic State Associations.

3)     Clinical Services: Facilitate the work of the Americares Patient Assistance Program (PAP) which, through contracts with pharmaceutical companies to provide free and reduced cost prescriptions to indigent patients in all 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In addition, the Vice President works in close collaboration with Americares Emergency Response and Recovery department to coordinate response and relief efforts and deploy staff in U.S. affected regions and works across all internal departments, notably and not limited to Development, Corporate Relations, Marketing and Finance. 

Americares currently runs direct clinical services and health promotion programs in four free clinics in Connecticut through a separate 501(c)(3). The new U.S. Vice President would be expected to build an increasingly integrated relationship with the Americares Free Clinics, with a view to potentially merging the two domestic portfolios in the future.

The Vice President currently manages a 6-person team. These project leaders oversee the day-to-day operations of the programs, ensure quality standards in pharmaceutical and program are met, and guide strategic priority setting in alignment with organizational goals. This requires collaboration with our safety net partners, as well as peer NGO and government organizations along with national, regional and state associations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Staff Management/Development

  • Provide leadership, day-to-day management, vision and inspiration to the U.S. Program teams.
  • Coordinate and oversee administrative and relationship-management activities of direct reports and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
  • Develop and manage implementation of plans to increase department operating performance and reporting, including SOPs and other efficiency initiatives.
  • Coach, support and mentor team members to increase individual and team effectiveness.

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and maintain in-depth understanding of local and national health issues impacting safety net organizations, primary care providers, and pharmaceutical companies and present Americares work at conferences, with donors, and through internally and externally published reports.
  • Develop and continuously update strategies, priorities and plans for the reporting unit in concert with program leads and the development team.
  • Regularly assess program areas for expansion including the need/potential to develop new partnerships.
  • Oversee and guide the development and implementation of targeted initiatives, programs and projects.

Program Management

  • Drive future strategy for the Roadmap to Health Equity, a foundational multi-year collaboration with multiple external collaborators, requiring an understanding of partnership driven work, data repositories and health quality outcomes and processes.
  • Serve as key Steering Committee member in partnership with a university and national association and coordinate Americares input into other aspects of Roadmap to Health Equity.

Partnership Management

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships, both recipient and funding partners, meeting all programmatic and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with other departments within Americares to nurture financial donors and ensure programmatic quality in timeliness and outcomes
  • Work with the Emergency Response and Recovery Teams to develop and implement processes and protocols around U.S. Program response and recovery efforts.

Budget Management

  • Oversee the development and management of program and grant budgets for the U.S. Programs.
  •  Collaborate with internal leadership across departments to increase program effectiveness, allocate scarce resources, and develop program strategy.
  • Proactively contribute to Americares resource acquisition efforts from donors, grants and earned revenue.

Qualifications

  •  At least 10 years of related work experience including a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated progressive responsibility in:
  •  Overseeing staff (including remote staff), budget, strategic planning and managing detailed program implementation in a complex, collaborative and changing environment
  • Program development/strategic planning /program management/administration or operations management
  • Successful staff management & development experience with the ability to motivate a team to accomplish the goals of the department and organization through staff empowerment;
  • Experience in and deep understanding of US safety net health care policies and environment
  • Master’s degree or higher in Health Management, Public Administration, Public Health, social services or another related field preferred;
  • Public health or social determinant of health experience preferred;
  • Strong problem-solving track record;
  • History of building partnerships—working effectively with government, state and county governments, local and international NGOs, and the private sector in complex environments;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communications skills; curiosity to understand partners’ interests, commitment, energy to advocate for partner with internal and external constituents;
  • Strong organization skills; attention to detail;
  • Ability to travel domestically – up to 10%;
  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
