United Press International is looking for an experienced daily reporter located near the U.S.-Mexico border to cover immigration and security issues for a national and international audience -- putting a human face and real-world context on policy and court decisions. The ideal candidate has reporting experience on immigration policy and/or communities, speaks fluent Spanish and has developed a valuable list of sources in the area. Must be able to produce well-researched, well-written stories, from quick-hit dailies to long-form enterprise and in-depth interviews. This is a contract, local position; no relocation benefits. Some travel along the border communities from California to Texas is required. Ability to report occasionally from the Mexican side of the border is a plus.
