Position description

The Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing a digital communications plan to advance the ACYPL mission and elevate its public profile. The Communications Manager works closely with the CEO and the Special Projects team to generate fresh content for all platforms and oversee all communications aspects of two semi-annual conferences.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

·        In conjunction with the CEO, develop and implement a strategic digital communications plan to advance ACYPL’s mission by engaging alumni, staff, Board of Trustees, and national and international partners

  • Manage ACYPL’s social media presence and website; develop compelling content and stories
  • Create and/or edit all internal and public communications
  • Coordinate with U.S. Department of State personnel on media/communications outreach
  • Support all strategic communications two semi-annual international State Department conferences in Washington, DC; manage conference mobile app and oversee all conference audio/visual components
  • Promote all organizational events across ACYPL’s platforms
  • Manage relationships with outside IT consultant and web developer 
  • Develop monthly newsletter and email fundraising campaigns
  • Provide onsite IT support, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned


  • BA/BS degree
  • 2-3 years of professional communications experience, preferably in a non-profit or political organization
  • Understanding of the social media universe including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and scheduling tools
  • Experience managing a website using WordPress 
  • Experience using online email marketing tools such as MailChimp and Vertical Response 
  • Solid working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Canva and general web editing tools 
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat Pro 
  • Proficiency with video editing tools, such as iMovie or Windows Movie Maker
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization and Google Analytics 
  • Strong writing skills in a variety of formats and styles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills both in person and on the phone
  • Interest in international affairs as well as working knowledge of national, state and local government, politics, and policy making 
  • Proactive, well‐organized, and deadline-oriented with the ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities
  • A team player who is dependable and willing to take initiative
