BPIE’s project portfolio includes a broad variety of projects, ranging from multi-year projects in large European consortia to short term assignments with a high political relevance. (Senior) Project Managers work on multiple projects at the time, provide guidance to junior staff, secure the quality of our projects, create synergies across projects and identify new research topics.

RESPONSIBILITIES of the Project Manager

Reporting to the Head of Research, you will:

  • Lead or contribute to projects in relation to energy performance in buildings from conceptualisation to completion;
  • Coach and supervise project team members;
  • Lead or support research in relation to one or more of the following domains:
    • Impact assessment and evaluation of building policies and programmes;
    • Plus energy buildings and neighbourhoods;
    • Energy performance certification (EPC) schemes, including compliance, reliability, usability and convergence;
    • Indoor comfort and well-being and indoor environmental quality;
    • Societal needs and impacts for the transformation of the built environment.
  • Draft briefings and reports, present results to internal and external audiences;
  • Lead or contribute to the preparation of proposals to a variety of donors and clients;
  • Engage and build good relationships with stakeholders such as policy makers, research institutes and industry;
  • Represent BPIE at selected meetings, workshops, and conferences across Europe.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years professional experience in project management in energy and climate change policy, managing projects related to the built environment is an asset;
  • Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as architecture, economics, finance, engineering, political or environmental sciences or equivalent;
  • Full professional proficiency in English. Any other European languages would be an asset;
  • Familiarity with (national) energy and climate policies, combined with a good understanding of the role of buildings in achieving the EU energy transition and the Paris Agreement climate commitments;
  • Proven experience in drafting (policy) reports and papers, and initial experience in presenting results and debating on technical or political topics to various audiences.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE

  • A minimum of 8 years professional experience in project management in energy and climate change policy, preferably including projects related to the built environment, of which at least 5 years as project leader;
  • Proven experience in preparing successful project proposals.

You should have experience in and knowledge of one or more of the topics below:

  • Policy analysis in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy in buildings, smart buildings and the wider energy system;
  • Design of innovative policies, regulations, support schemes or financing programmes;
  • Impact assessment and evaluation of building policies and programmes;
  • Urban regeneration, sustainable city policies or smart districts;
  • Modelling of energy demand and greenhouse gas emission scenarios;
  • Multiple benefits of renovation beyond energy;
  • Adaptation strategies for the built environment to climate change impacts.

PERSONAL INTERESTS & SKILLS

  • Ability to work with tight deadlines and manage/contribute to several projects simultaneously;
  • Willingness to work in a small, multi-national team and to be a pro-active and constructive team player;
  • Ability and willingness to travel, primarily in Europe;
  • A passion to fight climate change.
