The Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) seeks an enthusiastic and mission-driven Institutional Development Officer. This position will be based in Washington, D.C.

Founded in 1991, the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) is an organization dedicated to advancing human rights in the Americas. CEJIL seeks to take on human rights abuses across the region and bring about positive social change with the use of strategic litigation at the Inter-American Human Rights System (IAHRS); and through the incorporation of multi-layered and tailored advocacy, capacity building, and media work at the international and local levels. CEJIL fights for the rights of more than 10,000 victims of human rights violations from 200 human rights abuse cases across 21 countries in Latin America, and the U.S. These cases address a range of issues, including gender violence, migrant rights, massacres, and modern-day slavery, among many others. For more information about the organization, please visit our website: https://cejil.org

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Institutional Development Officer will function as a key point of contact for CEJIL’s institutional and individual donors. He/she/they will have the opportunity to make up part of a dynamic, multi-cultural team of dedicated human rights defenders working primarily in Latin America.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop relationships with the organization’s financial donors;
  • Write and edit project proposals, reports, newsletters, and social media content and promotional material to demonstrate the organization’s progress to both internal and external audiences;
  • Collaborate with the Financial Officer to ensure specific programmatic and financial goals are met;
  • Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of ongoing projects;
  • Review grant agreements to ensure CEJIL’s compliance with donor requirements;
  • Systematize and organize information from CEJIL’s four offices;
  • Complete research on human rights in Latin America and map regional trends on social issues
  • Conduct research on new potential sources of funding;
  • Collaborate in the planning of institutional events;
  • Assist the communications team in information needed to maintain donor platforms/channels

Qualifications

  • BA Required/MA preferred in International Relations, Political Science, Latin American Studies, Journalism, International Development, etc.;
  • 5 years of related work experience, preferably in grant writing and institutional development work;
  • Superb writing and editing skills in English required;
  • Proficiency in Spanish is required; Portuguese is a plus;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to be collegial and team oriented, yet be able to work independently, quickly and efficiently under pressure in a fast paced, multi-cultural environment;
  • Understanding of human rights issues, particularly in Latin America;
  • Strong computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Office;
  • Experience in graphic design and knowledge of Adobe Suite, CANVA; PiktoChart and CRM Databases is a plus.
