Position description

The Moynihan Center at The City College of New York (CCNY), housed within The Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership, seeks a highly motivated and creative Communications Coordinator.

The Coordinator will take the lead in managing our digital footprint (website, social media, and email communications) to amplify the Center’s mission. The successful candidate will be a capable storyteller, bringing to life the achievements of our fellows, the breadth of our programs, and the depth of our public events through compelling content and strategic outreach.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Content Management

  • Website Oversight: Serve as the primary caretaker of the Center's website, ensuring content is current, compelling, and reflective of our mission. This includes regular updates to the News & Events section, monitoring site performance, and interfacing with our web designer to suggest and implement UX enhancements.
  • Social Media Strategy: Lead and execute the Center's social media strategy across platforms with a keen focus on LinkedIn. Responsibilities include content planning, posting, engaging with our audience, and tracking audience growth.
  • Email Campaigns: Craft and manage the execution of our email newsletter and announcement strategy to effectively communicate with our community about upcoming events, program highlights, and Center news.

Content Creation and Curation

  • Develop a rich inventory of multimedia materials (photos, videos, audio) for digital platforms.
  • Interview fellows to create engaging content that showcases their work and the impact of the Center's programs for use in social media posts, website features, email newsletters and donor reports.

Copywriting and Copyediting

  • Draft copy for a range of program materials, including but not limited to: event descriptions and promotional materials, social media posts, email marketing material, press releases, proposals, and grant reports.
  • Provide expert copyediting for a range of materials produced by team members, ensuring clarity, coherence, and consistency with the Center's voice.

Event Support

  • Collaborate with operations staff to plan and execute public events, including drafting promotional materials and managing event-related communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a communications role, with a portfolio demonstrating success in digital content management, social media strategy, and email marketing.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools and content management systems.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp) and design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Commitment to in-person work at our Harlem office four days a week.
