Position description

Since its official launch in March 2021, the Council on Geostrategy has established itself as a leading think tank dedicated to generating a new generation of geostrategic thinking for a more competitive age.

Our non-profit organisation focuses on shaping British strategic ambition in an international environment increasingly defined by geopolitical competition and the environmental crisis so that the United Kingdom is best able to succeed and prosper in the twenty-first century.

We have a particular focus on Britain’s naval power and reach, and a broad focus on free and open nations in the Euro-Atlantic, the Indo-Pacific, and Polar regions.

Having developed quickly over the past three years, we are looking to appoint a Research Officer.

Role:

The Council on Geostrategy seeks to appoint a highly motivated and well organised Research Officer with excellent research and editorial skills to our growing and dynamic team. Besides an interest in administration and editing, the successful applicant will be interested in one or more of the following areas:

  • Geopolitics;
  • Britain’s position in the world;
  • Defence and national security;
  • Science and technology;
  • Infrastructure and industry;
  • International trade;
  • Environmental security.

The Research Officer will be an integral part of the team, working hand-in-hand with the Director of Research and the research fellows to produce, promote and disseminate research and expertise to key stakeholders in Westminster and Whitehall, as well as to the wider public.

Tasks:

  • Administrating all research tasks;
  • Reviewing and formatting research drafts, including footnotes and references;
  • Commissioning short articles for an online magazine;
  • Engaging with the Council on Geostrategy’s Associate Fellows;
  • Organising roundtable seminars and other research-focused events;
  • Undertaking research in support of the Council on Geostrategy’s staff and Associate Fellows;
  • Providing media commentary and articles for newspapers, magazines, journals and other similar publications;
  • Any other appropriate tasks as set by the Director of Research.

Requirements:

  • Graduate (with a classification of at least 2.1 or equivalent) or postgraduate degree (or equivalent) in Research Methodology, International Relations, Geopolitics, Environmental Security, International Economics, or an equivalent field;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Ability to organise efficiently;
  • Good writing and communication skills;
  • Strong aptitude for Information Technology applications;
  • Team worker with a proactive inclination and positive attitude;
  • Supportive of the Council on Geostrategy’s vision and mission.
