About this position

The IDB is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the Communications Consultant position within four teams of the Infrastructure and Energy Sector (INE/INE) to coordinate strategic communications and knowledge dissemination efforts within each team.  The teams are Energy Division, Public-Private Partnership Unit, Transport Division, Water and sanitation Division.

The consultants will work under the supervision of a focal point of each team and work closely with the Division Chiefs as well as other communication and knowledge dissemination teams across the Bank.

What you’ll do

Support the design and execution of the communications strategy and activities, outlining objectives and messages linked to IDB institutional strategy.

Develop and/or provide inputs for the development of talking points for the respective Division / Unit Chief and the Office of the Manager to ensure communications alignment with the IDB institutional strategy.

Advise and support in crisis management, which includes the preparation of briefs, talking points, press announcements, among others. Serve as a liaison/counterpart for all communication and dissemination related activities, including both internal and external audiences of the Bank.

Draft and edit newsletters, announcements, animation/video scripts, social media outputs, talking points, speeches, op-eds, blogposts, case studies, social media content and other materials that showcase the scope, importance, results, and impact of INE's work.

Draft press releases in collaboration with the teams’ specialists to support the dissemination of new projects and initiatives. Manage the generation and production of communication products provided and developed by external vendors, such as A/V products including videos and multimedia presentations, websites, communities of practice, social media, publications, translation and interpretation services.

Key activities include conceptualization of events and the coordination of logistics for both virtual, hybrid and in person events (Zoom, Teams and other platforms, interpretation).

Assist in the authorization processes of staff participation in external events, press interviews and the use of IDB logo.

Support on activities related to the Office of the Manager which include among others assist in the generation and dissemination of material related to the overall infrastructure sector (social media, videos, blogs, etc.), providing inputs for talking points for the Manager and Upper management, assist in events. 

Assist in the process of publications, which include among others work with external providers in editing, translating and design, responsible for obtaining all approvals necessary, in charge of the process in convergence, and coordinating with the required teams for final publication.

 

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’s degree in any of the following related fields: communications, journalism, or public affairs, international relations, public policy.
  • Experience: At least five (5) years of relevant experience, preferably with at least two (2) in international settings, coordinating strategic communication efforts and/or initiatives, disseminating knowledge, improving visibility, and developing relevant content Prior experience in the Infrastructure and Energy Sector, beyond the required qualifications, will be considered an asset. Experience/knowledge in graphic design, event production and editorial product development is a plus
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable
  • Key Skills: Ability to translate technical issues into communication assets for diverse audiences, experience in content production for various outreach channels, including social media and websites and managing vendors for the delivery of said content, experience in planning outreach and engagement strategies for events, ability to develop innovative presentations, fact sheets, briefs, talking points, press releases, and blogs, ability to guide/manage technical staff to produce compelling communication campaigns on technical topics editors, web and graphic designers, self-motivated, creative, excellent organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

  • Type of contract: International Consultant, Full-Time
  • Length of contract: 12 months. The contract will be for an initial duration of 12 months, with the possibility of extension for up to 36 months, contingent upon performance.
  • Work Location: On site, Washington, DC.
