About CFG

  • Centre for Future Generations (CFG) is an independent think-and-do tank dedicated to shaping a future where decision-makers anticipate and responsibly govern the societal impacts of rapid technological change, ensuring that emerging technologies are harnessed to serve the best interests of humanity;
  • Our experts supply rigorous, independent, policy-oriented research and analysis that connects the dots between the frontiers of emerging technology development and the principles of good governance.

In short, we see ourselves as lobbyists for future generations.

The role

Our Climate Interventions team of 4 seeks reinforcement from a senior project leader. So, what are climate interventions? They are a set of potential measures to slow or limit global heating and its hazards to people and planet, including by reflecting energy from the sun in the atmosphere through aerosols, clouds or surfaces. Our team aims to listen to and support EU policymakers as they grapple with the governance challenges of climate change and those emerging climate interventions, specifically solar radiation modification (SRM).

A major project we are about to start, opens a real window of opportunity to place SRM on the agenda of European – and global south – policymakers in a thoughtful and cautious manner. Your role will be the hands-on active management of a high-level policy-oriented foresight project. You will coordinate and support the execution of this project, which exceeds 1mio € and will run over 1.5-2 years under CFG’s lead. This includes reporting tasks as well as day-to-day coordination of the international project team of ca 10 individuals across four partner organisations (including the Organization for International Economic Development (OECD)). While the project start is scheduled for the End of June 2025 we welcome you to start at your earliest availability. The project comprises a first of its kind scenario development done through an extensive international high-level consultation process and based on robust scientific evidence. Besides delivering a report outlining four geopolitical SRM scenarios, a separate report will outline the contours of an international governance framework.

We expect you to work with the Senior Program Director as you take on this complex International project in all its aspects: project approach & method, coordination, communication, organisation, administration, reporting, management of high-level stakeholders, partners and budget. In addition, your assignment will also include other program execution and support tasks for the overall climate interventions program delivery.

What you will need to succeed in this role

  • > 5y project management experience at a similar complexity level as described above;
  • > 5y experience working with or in EU or international institutions and/or policymaking environments with a demonstrated ability to communicate with high-level individuals in intercultural contexts;
  • Foundational knowledge in climate change, and ideally also climate interventions and strategic foresight to get up to speed quickly;
  • Excitement about working in a fast-paced start-up environment with all its pros and cons;
  • Intellectual humility, compassion and collaboration and a very ambitious drive for our mission.

What we offer

  • A competitive daily rate in our NGO context.
  • For this assignment, it will be preferable for you to join us regularly in our wonderful workspace in Brussels.
