INTRODUCTION OF THE POST
INTERPOL is a Permanent Observer at the United Nations since 1996. The Office of the Special Representative of INTERPOL to the United Nations is a small team working in close cooperation with the UN in New York and the UN in Vienna, as well as the Organization of American States (OAS).
Under the supervision of the Special Representative of INTERPOL to the United Nations (SRIUN), the incumbent is expected to produce background materials, policy reports and strategic assessments in support of the work of SRIUN in a flexible team approach by researching, developing and implementing dynamic and innovative policy solutions and legal support which help promote the global law enforcement perspective in multilateral frameworks. The incumbent will attend and contribute to UN meetings and initiatives, nurture and foster contact with partner UN organizations and agencies as well as Permanent Missions.
PRIMARY DUTIES
DUTY 1
Provide analytical reports, policy analysis, legal analysis, strategic advice and recommendations in relation to the developments made under major intergovernmental mechanisms; and support INTERPOL’s positioning in these frames.
DUTY 2
Perform research and analysis of legal and policy documents and all types of resources to provide a comprehensive understanding of the relevant issues and developments at the United Nations and their impact on international law enforcement cooperation mechanisms.
DUTY 3
Monitor and contribute to multilateral processes and events pertaining to common UN and INTERPOL priorities, including international security and the achievement of UN Agenda 2030.
DUTY 4
Draft speeches, presentations and briefing material in support to conferences, missions, visits, and bilateral/multilateral meetings.
DUTY 5
Support the delivery of the SRUN’s public diplomacy and outreach strategy, including liaising with Permanent Missions, international partners and organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.
DUTY 6
Coordinate and support the engagement of substantial units in UN events and processes including by providing strategic advice and building internal knowledge on UN matters.
DUTY 7
Provide a wide range of support activities in preparation of outreach activities, including event coordination, organization of bilateral meetings and correspondence with member countries.
