Position description

The Strategy Intern will support the development and implementation of the Africa50’s strategic priorities. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in identifying strategic opportunities, supporting the execution of key initiatives that drive growth, impact, gaining valuable exposure to the African infrastructure landscape and contributing to sustainable development on the continent.

Main Responsibilities 

The Strategy Intern will support the Director of Strategy, as well as work directly with team members in the Strategy and Investor Relations Department and closely with Investment and support teams on a cross-functional basis. In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the development of actionable strategies across different groups and initiatives within Africa50 (e.g., Project Development, Fundraising, Communications, Data and AI, etc.)
  • Creation of and driving of high-quality written communications, analysis, recommendations reports and presentation materials, ensuring clarity and professionalism.
  • Market and company research and analysis on key investors, target markets and the competitive landscape to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and risks that inform strategic decision-making.
  • Project management assistance and support in ensuring timely delivery of key milestones and execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Meeting support, including the production of materials such as meeting updates, agendas, bios, and any additional briefing documentation.
  • Collaboration with internal teams to optimize project implementation.
  • Contribution towards identifying innovative approaches and solutions that align with Africa50’s mission and goals.

Qualifications

The Strategy Director is seeking candidates with:

  • A recently completed degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field from a reputable university; those currently pursuing a degree in these fields can also be considered.
  • Prior experience in management consulting or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct research and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Strong work ethic, taking initiative and driving tasks to completion.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, attention to detail and the ability to work under tight deadlines independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English, knowledge of French is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of infrastructure sectors such as energy, transportation, ICT, or others relevant to Africa50 are a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Interests 

  • Interest in Africa50’s mission, strategy, and values.
  • Strong connection to Africa and a desire to build a career focused on the continent.
  • Awareness of the latest trends in infrastructure financing.
  • Prior experience or knowledge of African infrastructure, public-private partnerships (PPP) and project finance (e.g., concession agreements, PPAs, EPC, O&M contracts) is a plus.
