Position description

The Communications Department (COM) is the IMF’s center for strategic communication. It develops and coordinates the Fund’s external and internal communications strategy, shapes key messages, and advises Management and staff on how best to convey those messages. The Department also monitors and responds to what is being said and written about the institution, both inside and outside the Fund.

 

The Stakeholder Engagement Division in COM (COMSE) promotes understanding and support of the IMF through two way engagement with the public and key stakeholders, including civil society organizations, labor unions, think tanks, parliamentarians, youth and academics. The division disseminates information about the Fund, initiates dialogue and debate, and builds relationships with these and other stakeholders and umbrella organizations.

 

The candidate will perform a wide variety of duties in supporting communications and outreach efforts, including and not limited to: communications and due diligence around Management engagements; preparing and supporting the preparation of briefing materials; supporting the division’s impact reporting and analysis; and communications with non-media stakeholders.

 

In addition, the candidate will:

  • Assist the division’s work on the Managing Director’s correspondence and Asks process. This includes liaising with organizers and maintaining a list in SharePoint for the MD’s participation in external, non-media events and engagements, in coordination with relevant departments and COM colleagues, as well as managing responses to letters and invitations received by the MD.  
  • Produce materials for distribution and support external stakeholder engagement during the Spring and Annual Meetings as well as other key engagements opportunities.
  • Provide technical expertise to COMSE in the areas of data analytics; customer relationship management; data management and process improvement; knowledge management.
  • Provide administrative support to the division, and cover for the divisional Administrative Coordinator when required.
  • Assist with other COMSE projects as needed.

 

Qualifications:

 

A combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of a secondary school education, supplemented by a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience, or equivalent, is required. In addition to the qualifications outlined above, the candidate must possess the following:

  • Superb administrative skills; excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated teamwork ability; proven ability to manage complex and demanding workload in a large organization; first-class organizational skills and the ability to handle sensitive matters with good judgment and diplomacy; a record of consistently high-quality output; proven ability to work under pressure, manage tight deadlines, handle multiple tasks, and balance overlapping requests; and strong technical and systems expertise with a flair for analytics and problem solving.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills to interact effectively with Fund staff and external contacts at all levels; superior proficiency in the use of Fund standard software packages, including databases; and knowledge of Fund’s administrative procedures and policies (or ability to quickly learn).

This is a one-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent's performance, budget availability and continuous business need.
