Position description
The global GIS and Remote Sensing team at IMPACT plays a critical role in achieving the organisation’s research and analysis objectives, by enabling the production of timely, nuanced, evidence-based insights that can inform emergency response, resource allocation decisions, and long-term resilience planning in complex humanitarian settings. Working in close collaboration with research and analysis teams across the field and in HQ, the global GIS & Remote Sensing team ensures the collection, processing and analysis of relevant satellite imagery and geo-spatial data to monitor crisis-affected areas, assess needs, map population movements, and identify vulnerabilities among affected populations. Within this set-up, and under the supervision of the GIS & Remote Sensing Specialist, the Senior GIS Officer will be responsible for producing global analysis products, as well as technical backstopping to global and country teams for the implementation of relevant programmes. The candidate should have a strong technical background in GIS, and prior experience with research and analysis based on geospatial data. The candidate should also have a strong understanding of the concepts of cartographic design, and prior experience in the presentation of spatial analysis results using static and interactive mapping.
CORE TASKS
Technical guidance and capacity sharing
- Provide technical backstopping and support for the successful implementation of relevant research and analysis programmes; including:
- Develop and maintain GIS-related tools, guidelines and learning materials to continuously promote quality standards for GIS data management, interpretation, analysis and visualization
- Guide global and country teams on planning and design in line with project objectives and IMPACT’s GIS & Remote Sensing guidelines
- Support with the drafting and review of relevant research ToRs, with a specific focus on the analysis plan, data management plan, and key geospatial analysis methodologies
- Support with the production and review of relevant analysis and mapping products
- Ensure storage and management of geospatial data in line with industry standards
GLOBAL RESEARCH & ANALYSIS
- Produce global geo-spatial analysis and mapping products in line with IMPACT’s standards and strategic priorities (exact scope and priority areas of focus to be defined)
PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORT
- Provide other support needed for the successful implementation of IMPACT’s global GIS & Remote Sensing Strategy, including development of technical resources, in-country deployments, and external engagement efforts, as relevant
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
BACKGROUND
- Excellent academic qualifications, preferably a Master degree or higher related to GIS, Remote Sensing, Geography or Environmental sciences
- At least 3-4 years of relevant work experience with geo-spatial analysis
- Fluency in English; fluency in French or Spanish also an asset

- Geospatial Analysis i.e. ability to process spatial data for making calculations, identify spatial patterns, and relationships, including design and implementation of complex analysis (hot spot analysis, raster multi-criteria analysis, etc.)
- Mapping Visualisation i.e. ability to make maps that effectively communicate clear and accurate information, and advanced working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro
- Interactive Mapping i.e. ability to create, manage and deploy interactive maps
- GIS in Research i.e. ability to provide GIS inputs throughout the research cycle
- GIS Data Management i.e. ability to manage and use GIS data while maintaining data quality, including ability to work with a wide range of GIS databases

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- For this position, gross salary between 5’300 CHF and 5’430 CHF monthly (before income tax). NB - IMPACT salaries are strictly determined by our salary grid depending on the grade of the position and the level of education and experience of staff. A contribution to medical insurance of 489 CHF per month is already included in the salary figure.

- Enrolment in IMPACT Initiatives Research Foundational Learning Programme within the first 3 months from the start of contract.
- Applicants must hold a valid work permit for Switzerland or be EU/EFTA citizens
- Up to 40% of remote work on a weekly basis.
