BUSINESSEUROPE SEEKS TO FILL THE FOLLOWING POSITION: INTERN FOR ITS ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT.

Starting date: by early October 2025
Duration: 6 months
Regime: full-time (35 hours/week)

ELIGIBILITY CRITERION:

To be eligible for this intern position at BusinessEurope, your application has to meet the following requirement:

  • You are either a Master student in economics, finance or business management, or have recently graduated in one of these fields.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

BUSINESSEUROPE’s Economics Department works in close cooperation with experts in national member federations to develop business views on macro-economic policies, structural reforms, access to finance, taxation, and the EU budget. It is at the forefront of BusinessEurope’s work to improve European competitiveness and the functioning of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).

The internship offers the opportunity to be exposed to a large variety of policy issues, and be closely involved in all the activities of our economic department. It also gives the intern a deep insight into the work of the EU institutions and good networking opportunities.

TASKS ENTRUSTED TO THE INTERN INCLUDE:

  • Monitoring relevant developments in EU economic and financial matters, and related negotiations and initiatives in the EU institutions. For this particular internship, we are looking for an intern who is interested in EU economic and financial affairs policies;
  • Performing economic and financial research, modelling and analysis, thereby supporting the colleagues in the department with the preparation of economic analysis notes on various subjects as well as BusinessEurope’s two yearly economic forecasts and the flagship annual Reform Barometer;
  • Attending meetings with our member federations, other stakeholders and organisations, and report back on events attended;
  • Researching the issues of interest for the department and conducting policy analysis. We are looking for an intern who is interested in doing economic data mining, processing and analysis;
  • Contributing to drafting briefings, speeches and presentations;
  • Helping in the organisation of events;
  • Supporting the team according to their needs.

THE CANDIDATE FOR THIS POSITION SHOULD BE/HAVE:

  • A high interest in the functioning of the EU economy and financial matters;
  • Good analytical skills. This ideally includes ability or familiarity with economic databases (e.g. Ameco, WDI, WEO, Bach, CompNet). Familiarity with analytical software (econometric packages, e.g. Eviews, and statistical packages, e.g. Stata) is a plus;
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English. Good knowledge of other European languages is a plus;
  • Proficiency in IT tools (MS Office) and in particular, extracting and preparing data using Excel;
  • A quick learner with a positive attitude and pro-active approach.
