Position description
Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
International Engagement:
- Contribute to Liberia’s engagement in international processes that incentivise forest governance in country;
- Represent the project in global forums such as the BMRC, Climate COPs, and other relevant platforms;
- Coordinate contributions to international dialogues on forest governance and climate-linked trade;
- Develop briefing materials and policy inputs to support Liberia’s international positioning;
- Support exchanges between key market players in Liberia and Liberian forest sector stakeholders to understand the market.
Market Analysis and Strategy:
- Conduct and commission market analyses to identify key and emerging markets for Liberia’s forest products;
- Provide strategic advice on trade opportunities and barriers;
- Support the development of market entry strategies aligned with governance reforms.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Facilitate multistakeholder deliberative processes between Liberian stakeholders and international market actors;
- Organise trade missions, roundtables, and bilateral meetings to promote mutual understanding;
- Build partnerships with trade bodies, certification schemes, and private sector actors.
Reporting and Knowledge Sharing:
- Produce reports and policy briefs on market trends and Liberia’s trade positioning to support the MEL Manager;
- Share insights with government, civil society, and private sector stakeholders;
- Contribute to project monitoring and evaluation through documentation of engagement outcomes.
Essential Criteria:
- Extensive experience in international trade, market analysis, or policy engagement;
- Strong understanding of national and international forest governance, climate policy, and trade mechanisms;
- Strong understanding of the key players in Liberia and internationally in forest governance;
- Proven experience working with international institutions and market actors;
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills;
- Familiarity with voluntary partnership agreements (VPAs), REDD+, or similar frameworks is desirable.
