The Vice President, Global Government Affairs, serves as a senior leader responsible for shaping and executing Airlines for America’s (A4A) advocacy strategy across federal policy arenas. This role leads engagement with Congress, the Administration and global government stakeholders to advance policies that promote a safe, competitive and economically strong U.S. airline industry.

The Vice President will leverage deep relationships within House Democratic leadership and key congressional committees, while maintaining the ability to work effectively across the aisle to deliver bipartisan results. Acting as a trusted advisor to A4A’s senior leadership and member airlines, they will drive legislative priorities that support pro-growth, market-based solutions and ensure the airline industry’s voice is represented in critical policy decisions.

This position requires exceptional political acumen, a strong understanding of aviation and transportation policy and a proven ability to influence decision-makers in complex political environments.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cultivate and maintain trusted relationships with Members of Congress, congressional staff, federal agencies and policy influencers—particularly within House Democratic leadership and relevant committees—to promote A4A’s legislative and regulatory priorities.

  • Develop and execute advocacy campaigns that align with A4A’s strategic objectives, including reducing regulatory burdens, promoting aviation infrastructure investment, enhancing tax competitiveness and fostering innovation across the industry.

  • Serve as A4A’s representative in interactions with Congress, the Administration and international government bodies, articulating industry positions on critical issues such as safety, sustainability, labor, trade and energy policy.

  • Help to coordinate policy alignment across member airlines, ensuring consistent messaging and unified industry positions on major legislative and regulatory initiatives.

  • Monitor, analyze and forecast political and legislative developments, providing strategic guidance to A4A leadership and member airlines on emerging opportunities and risks.

  • Build bipartisan coalitions and partnerships with aligned trade groups, think tanks and business associations and industry trade unions to strengthen advocacy impact and broaden industry influence.

  • Develop briefing materials, testimony and position papers for A4A executives and member CEOs participating in congressional hearings, policy meetings or industry forums.
  • Provide political insight and strategic counsel to the CEO and senior leadership on the evolving federal and international policy landscape, helping shape A4A’s long-term advocacy agenda.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in political science, public policy, law or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in government relations, legislative affairs or public policy, with significant time spent working directly with Congress or within a major trade association, corporation or federal agency.
  • Demonstrated, active relationships within Democratic congressional leadership, committees and staff—along with a proven record of bipartisan collaboration.
  • Exceptional strategic and political acumen with the ability to anticipate legislative developments and craft proactive policy responses.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to convey complex industry positions clearly and persuasively to policymakers and the public.
  • Proven success in coalition building, stakeholder engagement and representing industry positions in high-profile settings.
  • Experience managing teams and leading cross-functional initiatives.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with government relations tracking tools.
