Position description

Ever since 2019, the Right to Repair Coalition has been fighting and advocating to remove the barriers to repair our products, so they can last for longer. Why?

The problem is simple. The products we use everyday are getting harder and harder to repair. E-waste is one of the fastest growing waste streams in the world, with phone and laptops manufacturers making their products harder to fix. And it’s not just digital devices – the amount of household appliances failing within 5 years from their purchase is also skyrocketing.

We’ve had enough. On every metric – emissions, social impact, waste, resources – this can’t go on. So we’re committing to doing something about it. We want a universal Right to Repair. The Right to Repair Europe coalition represents over 180 organisations from 30 European countries. It is a rapidly growing movement, with the objective to make repair affordable, accessible and mainstream.

Summary of the Role

The Campaign Manager of Right to Repair Europe serves as the strategist, spokesperson, and operational manager for the coalition advocating for the right to repair at the European level. The primary goal is to ensure that EU policy and legislation are adopted and robustly implemented to make repair affordable, accessible, and mainstream for consumers and repair businesses.

Key Responsibilities

1. Policy and Advocacy Leadership

      • EU Legislative Monitoring: Proactively monitor, analyse, and report on all relevant EU legislative and non-legislative developments;
      • Position Development: Coordinate and help draft detailed policy documents, position papers, briefings reflecting the coalition's collective objectives in line with our policy priorities;
      • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the main contact point and spokesperson for the coalition with key EU institutions, media and stakeholders.

2. Coalition Management and Coordination

      • Network Strategy: Execute the overall strategy for the Right to Repair Europe coalition, developed with steering group members;
      • Steering Group Facilitation: Organise, lead and document regular meetings, workshops, and calls for the coalition, ensuring effective communication, coordination, and consensus-building among diverse members across multiple European countries;
      • Recruiting new members: Extending the campaign’s reach, effectiveness and financial sustainability by expanding its membership.

3. Communications and Public Outreach

      • Media and Public Relations: Act as the primary media contact for the campaign in Brussels, to ensure the campaign's voice is prominent in EU and national public discourse;
      • Campaign Mobilization: Develop and coordinate public campaigns, stunts and strategic communications to raise awareness and lobby policymakers to address specific issues (eg. the recent Microsoft Windows 10 demonstration);
      • Information Dissemination: Coordinate external communications and newsletters to inform coalition members and the public about legislative progress and challenges.

Qualifications

      • Education: Undergraduate or Master’s degree;
      • Experience: 3-5 years of professional experience in EU policy advocacy or campaign coordination;
      • EU Expertise: Strong demonstrated understanding of the EU legislative process (Commission/Parliament/Council roles, primary vs secondary legislation) and key environmental and consumer laws (e.g., Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, Right to Repair Directive, WEEE Directive, Ecodesign Directive and Circular Economy Action Plans and Act);
      • Language: Excellent command of English (written and spoken) is mandatory; proficiency in one or more other EU languages is a significant asset;
      • Skills: Proven ability to conduct complex policy and technical research and translate detailed legislative text into clear, impactful advocacy positions for non-experts. Ability to multitask and prioritise work with tight deadlines. Proven experience managing multi-stakeholder governance.

Location, Compensation and Work Environment

      • Contract: full time one-year fixed term contract, with high likelihood of yearly renewal. You will be employed and line-managed by the Restart Project (the co-founder of the Coalition);
      • Location and travel: Based in Brussels with occasional travel in Europe. The person in this role will have access to a shared working space in Brussels, where one of the steering group members is based;
      • Starting date: January 2026, or as soon as possible;
      • Work environment: The position is remotely line-managed by The Restart Project’s Co-Director, International Strategy. Most coalition steering group meetings happen online, with frequent in-person meetings in Brussels with partners, journalists and policymakers;
      • Compensation: Competitive salary package between €4,000 - €4,250 gross per month depending on experience, plus pension contributions;
      • Holiday entitlement: 28 days leave allowance in addition to Belgian public holidays, plus an additional three days between Christmas and the New Year;
      • Benefits: A range of flexible working arrangements, including flexi-time and time off in lieu (TOIL). The Restart Project offers a shorter working week, in which employees work 90% of their paid hours. This is reviewed on an annual basis.
