Position description

Athens-based | occasional travel to Kos & Izmir | Hybrid

Glocal Roots is a small, independent non-profit organisation with projects in Greece, Turkey, and Switzerland. We develop initiatives that strengthen the resilience, dignity, and economic independence of displaced people.

We are seeking a Fundraising & Communications Manager to lead and strengthen our fundraising and external communications, with a primary focus on our Kos Support Hub and our Social Factory social enterprise initiative.

The position is based in our main office in Athens, with occasional travel to Kos and Izmir. Partial remote work is possible.

Project Overview

Kos Support Hub

Glocal Roots operates a community-based support hub on the island of Kos, providing holistic support to displaced people. The hub offers psychosocial support, case management, educational activities, and community programming aimed at strengthening resilience and restoring dignity in a context of prolonged displacement. The project works in close coordination with local actors and adapts flexibly to evolving needs on the island.

Social Factory

Social Factory is Glocal Roots’ social enterprise initiative, designed to create meaningful employment opportunities for refugee women. Through vocational training, production, and market access, Social Factory enables women to generate income while building skills, confidence, and long-term economic independence.

Operating in Athens and Izmir, the Social Factory represents a core pillar of Glocal Roots’ long-term strategy: moving from emergency response toward sustainable economic empowerment.

Position Overview

This is a multi-dimensional role within a small and dynamic organisation. The Fundraising & Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies, managing donor relations, and leading external communications to ensure sustainable support for our programmes.

The role combines strategic planning with hands-on implementation and requires close collaboration with project teams across Athens, Kos, and Izmir.

      • Identify new funding opportunities and lead grant proposal writing (design, drafting, submission, follow-up)
      • Manage donor relationships and ensure timely, high-quality reporting
      • Align programme design and budgets with funding requirements
      • Plan and execute online fundraising and engagement campaigns

Communications & Storytelling

      • Lead the development of compelling storytelling strategies that communicate the impact of our work in Kos and Social Factory
      • Produce high-quality written, visual, and multimedia content (social media, website, newsletters, donor materials)
      • Capture and document programme activities through photography and video
      • Edit and produce short videos and visual stories that mobilise public and financial support
      • Develop visually coherent communication materials, including graphics, presentations, and campaign assets
      • Ensure consistent branding and narrative alignment across all communication channels
      • Translate field activities into clear, engaging narratives tailored to institutional donors, private supporters, and partners

Qualifications

      • Proven experience in fundraising, including donor engagement, proposal writing, and reporting
      • Strong storytelling ability, with demonstrated experience producing engaging written and visual content
      • Solid graphic design skills (e.g. Canva, Adobe Suite or similar tools)
      • Experience in photography and videography, including basic editing skills
      • Strong understanding of how visual content supports fundraising and advocacy
      • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams across different countries
      • Excellent organisational and time management skills
      • Ability to work independently and proactively identify communication opportunities
      • Fluency in English (written and spoken); German would be a strong asset
      • Familiarity with the refugee support sector or related social impact fields

      • Occasional travel to Kos and occasional travel to Izmir
      • Hybrid working model with partial remote flexibility
      • Full-time position (40 hours/week)
      • Contract type and compensation will be determined based on experience and profile. Engagement may take the form of either a freelance agreement or an employment contract under Greek labour law.

Compensation levels will be aligned with local salary standards in Greece and reflect the scope of responsibilities and level of experience.

  • Contract length: 1 year, with the possibility of renewal (3-month probation period)

Start Date: Flexible, with a preferred start in April or May 2026.
