POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager, Events is responsible for leading the planning and delivery of CIGI’s events and overseeing third-party venue rentals at the CIGI Campus. The position manages the events team and is responsible for the full lifecycle of event delivery, from planning and coordination through to execution and evaluation.
Working closely with internal teams, the position ensures events effectively support organizational priorities and provide high-quality engagement opportunities. The position also oversees campus venue rentals, balancing external bookings with internal programming needs while supporting effective use of the CIGI Campus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and develop the events team, setting priorities and supporting staff performance and growth.
- Work with internal teams to plan and deliver virtual, hybrid and in-person events.
- Evaluate potential events and provide recommendations based on impact, audience reach and available resources.
- Monitor event performance and identify opportunities to improve future events.
- Oversee all aspects of third-party venue rentals, including contracts, pricing, scheduling and client relationships.
- Ensure venue operations meet organizational needs and standards.
- Coordinate internal event needs with external bookings to ensure effective use of the CIGI Campus.
- Promote venue rental opportunities to maximize space utilization and revenue.
- Support initiatives that strengthen relationships with community partners.
- Represent CIGI at regional events and communicate the organization’s research and impact.
Qualifications
- College diploma or certificate in public relations, communications, marketing or event management.
- CMP certification preferred.
- 7+ years of event planning or event management experience.
- Experience supervising staff and coordinating teams.
- Proven ability to lead conferences, networking events and similar programs.
- Knowledge of venue operations or third-party rental management.
- Familiarity with CRM and event management systems.
- Budget management, financial tracking and vendor coordination.
- Contract negotiation and vendor management.
- Strong communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
- Sound judgment and ability to manage complex events in fast-paced environments.
- Experience in a policy, research, academic or mission-driven organization is an asset.

- Salary range: $100,000 - $120,000

This position is based at our CIGI Campus in Waterloo, Ontario, where employees have a hybrid work environment which requires them to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week. This job posting is for a new position.
