Position description
thyssenkrupp Steel is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head of Climate & Circular Economy Policy to join our EU Affairs team in Brussels. In this strategic, high-visibility role, you will lead the company’s engagement with EU institutions and key stakeholders on climate, circular economy, and sustainable steel policies - including green steel labeling and product policy initiatives. You will shape policy developments that enable the decarbonization of the steel sector while promoting Europe’s internationally competitive steel industry.
Reporting to the CEO through the Government Affairs function, EU Affairs acts as the company’s frontline advocacy team in Brussels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute thyssenkrupp Steel’s EU government affairs strategy on climate, decarbonization, and circular economy;
- Lead advocacy and engagement on EU climate policy, circular economy initiatives, green steel labeling, environmental product requirements, and related regulatory matters;
- Represent thyssenkrupp Steel in discussions with policymakers, advocacy groups, industry partners, associations, and in external meetings, working groups, and conferences;
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with EU institutions, stakeholders, and industry networks to advance policy objectives;
- Collaborate with the Group Head of Climate Policy and internal teams to develop and align policy positions with business objectives and communicate updates to senior management;
- Draft and coordinate position papers, policy briefs, consultation responses, legislative amendment proposals, and presentations for internal and external audiences.
Qualifications
- 5–8 years of EU public affairs experience in relevant policy areas, with a well-established network of contacts in Brussels;
- Strong knowledge of climate policy, circular economy, and EU legislative processes;
- Proven ability to build and collaborate with strategic alliances, coalitions, trade groups, and stakeholder partnerships to advance policy goals;
- Strategic mindset with a proactive, results-oriented approach, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines;
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills with strong relationship management capabilities;
- Verbal and written fluency in English and German required; additional languages are an advantage;
- EU citizenship or valid work authorization for Belgium required.
