Job Summary

The Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Communications Advisor to join our team. As a Communications Advisor, you will play a crucial role in effectively communicating the UAE's positions and priorities to the international community through various media channels. You will be responsible for analyzing and understanding the media landscape, drafting and sharing communications products, and providing strategic guidance on a range of issues related to the work of the United Nations General Assembly.

Key Responsibilities

1. Content Development and Coordination:

•Research and plan communications opportunities in coordination with Mission diplomats and advisors.

•Draft, edit and provide support for a wide range of English communications products, including press releases, official statements, briefing notes, interview briefs, and talking points, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency with the UAE's positions and policies in response to global issues.

•Work individually and/or with other internal communications team members and outside consultants to develop communications plans.

•Implement consistent and strategic messaging across all communications platform, including reviewing content that highlights key initiatives, engagements, and statements, while actively monitoring engagement and trends.

•Organize and manage communication campaigns, events, and public-facing activities (such as panel discussions and cultural events) that align with the mission’s objectives and messaging priorities.

2. UN Media Engagement:

•Monitor news developments related to the United Nations General Assembly, UN Security Council and the United Arab Emirates.

•Coordinate with UN communications contacts for media engagements, including but not limited to: press briefings, press stakeouts, and visual media coverage.

3. External Media Relations:

Support the Director of Communications in liaising and maintaining strong relationships with media representatives, including journalists, editors, and producers covering the United Nations.

Proactively engage with media outlets to pitch stories, organize press briefings, interviews, and media events to promote the UAE's priorities.

Assist in preparing briefs, talking points, and other communications materials for diplomatic engagements, including UN Security Council meetings, high-level events, and negotiations.

Occasionally, you also may be asked to conduct comprehensive analyses of the media landscape, identifying key trends, opportunities, and challenges relevant to the UAE's interests at the United Nations.

Qualifications

•Bachelor's or Master's degree in communications, international relations, political science, journalism, or a related field.

•Not an entry-level position: 3-6 years of experience in political communications, media relations, or public affairs, preferably within an international organization or diplomatic setting.

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable.

•Demonstrated ability to write and edit complex documents with precision and clarity.

•Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize information and present it effectively to diverse audiences.

•Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

•Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.

•Knowledge of digital media tools, social media platforms, and multimedia production is an asset.
