Project Associate—Ph.D. Position

Position description

The Korea-U.S. Science Cooperation Center, KUSCO, is seeking a highly motivated doctoral candidate or Ph.D. holder in science, technology, science and technology policy, or related field to support the Korea-U.S. Research Security Forum series.

 

This project will bring together policy partners, research institutions, and researchers from Korea and the United States to share research security policies, implementation practices, and opportunities for bilateral cooperation. The selected candidate will support the forum series by attending sessions in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and preparing high-quality written reports in Korean and/or English.

Location

DMV area preferred. The selected candidate must be able to attend in-person forums held in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

 

Expected Forum Schedule

All three forums will be held in person in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

-1st Forum: June 26, 2026

-2nd Forum: September 2026, exact date TBD

-3rd Forum: January 2027, exact date TBD

 

Key Responsibilities

-Attend Korea-U.S. Research Security Forum sessions in person

-Take detailed notes on presentations, panel discussions, and Q&A sessions

-Prepare comprehensive summary reports for each of the forums

-Prepare a final analytical report synthesizing key themes, policy implications, comparative insights, and potential Korea-U.S. cooperation opportunities

-Coordinate with KUSCO staff regarding report structure, deadlines, revisions, and formatting requirements

 

Qualifications

-Currently enrolled in or have completed a Ph.D. program in a STEM field, science and technology policy, or a related field

-Strong interest in research security, R&D policy, Korea-U.S. science and technology cooperation, or research governance

-Excellent analytical writing and summarization skills

-Professional proficiency in Korean and English strongly preferred

-Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to meet project deadlines

-Able to attend in-person forums in Washington, D.C.

 

Compensation

This is a project-based independent contractor opportunity. Compensation will be discussed with shortlisted candidates during the selection process.
