Director of Advocacy

Position description

WindEurope exists to accelerate the growth of wind energy in Europe and ensure that wind becomes the leading source of clean, affordable, secure, and sustainable electricity. It serves as the collective voice of the European wind industry, representing companies and organisations across the wind energy value chain.

We are looking for a Director of Advocacy to strengthen this pivotal work and our Policy Department. You will lead the Advocacy team to deliver on WindEurope’s strategic objectives reporting to the Chief Policy Officer (CPO).

WindEurope is a team of passionate people from all over the globe coming together to make a meaningful impact in shaping the future of wind and renewable energy. We are all based at the heart of the European Union in Brussels, Belgium., working 3 days a week in the office and 2 days from home to facilitate work/life balance. As Director of Advocacy, you are expected to travel frequently to Europe’s capitals engaging with national governments, and WindEurope members.

Main duties and responsibilities:

• Lead, support and develop the Advocacy team, ensuring clear priorities, strong collaboration and effective delivery;
• Coordinate policymaker engagement across the association - covering climate and energy policy, trade and competitiveness, and infrastructure and innovation;
• Lead engagement at national level and with the National Association CEOs Working Group in close coordination with CEO and the Executive team;
• Work closely with the CPO and the CEO to set and execute WindEurope’s policy strategy;
• Ensure delivery of WindEurope’s annual Work Programme with the CPO and the Policy Management team;
• Ensure timely approval of impactful policy positions through WindEurope’s governance structure;
• Feed into WindEurope’s communications strategy;
• Speak for WindEurope in institutional meetings, events, and on social media;
• Expand and cultivate WindEurope’s network across the EU institutions and in relevant national markets.

Qualifications

Leadership and Mindset

• Impactful track record of shaping policy;
• Politically savvy with an excellent command of the EU decision making process;
• Strong people management and leadership experience;
• Commitment to renewables and climate action;
• Curious, autonomous and result orientated;
• A consensus builder, both internally and externally;
• Ability to build strong personal ties and cultivate networks through a constant eagerness to pick up the phone and engage in person;
• An engaging and motivational public speaker;
• Ability to work well within and across teams;
• Openness to work with AI and relevant digital tools.

Experience

• Minimum 8 to 10 years in the EU institutions, associations or relevant organisations engaged in policymaking or policy shaping;
• Proven experience in networking, engaging, and relationship building with EU institutions, national governments, industry stakeholders and senior decision-makers;
• Strong understanding of EU climate, energy, industrial, infrastructure or competitiveness policy;
• Experience managing teams, complex stakeholder processes or member-driven advocacy work is a strong asset.

Languages

• Very good level of English (written and spoken);
• German is an asset but not essential.
