Position description
The Department of Political Science at The University of Memphis invites applications for a Tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of public law, contributing to our growing pre-law program. The position will start in fall 2027 pending the availability of funds. We seek applications from candidates in any subfield who can contribute to our Pre-Law concentration. Preference will be given for candidates who focus on public law, and we have greater departmental needs in comparative politics or political theory. The successful candidate must show promise of excellence in research and teaching.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Teach undergraduate courses in the area of Public Law, including but not limited to Introduction to Politics and Law, Introduction to Law and Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, and related offerings within the department's Pre-Law curriculum.
- Teach and support graduate-level service courses, such as Scope and Methods of Political Science, Political Statistics, or a graduate survey seminar in Political Theory.
- Maintain an active program of scholarly research and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Public Law.
- Contribute to the department's Public Law area and support the continued growth and development of its Pre-Law program through teaching, advising, curriculum development, student mentorship, and service activities.
- Participate actively in departmental, college, and university service.
Workload Expectations:
- The College of Arts and Sciences offers competitive faculty workloads that recognize demonstrated research productivity while balancing teaching, research, and service responsibilities in accordance with college workload policies. Faculty workload assignments are determined consistent with the College's teaching and workload guidelines and the needs of the department.
Qualifications
Ph. D. in Political Science by August 16, 2027.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to teach courses such as Intro to Politics and Law, Intro to Law and Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, and others in our Pre-Law curriculum.
- Ability to teach a graduate-level service course (i.e., Scope and Methods of Political Science, Political Statistics, or a survey Political Theory seminar).
