Professor Costas Arkolakis in Economics Department at Yale University and PhD Candidate Sun Kyoung Lee in Economics Department at Columbia University are seeking a FULL-TIME research assistant to be located in New Haven, CT for 1 year, beginning as soon as possible (start date and duration of work periods are both negotiable). We work on a number of projects related to spatial economics, economic history, using a big data approach. We are looking for post-undergraduate candidates who intend to pursue a PhD in economics or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree is required.
Candidates with strong backgrounds in computer science (especially Python language and the application of Machine Learning) or economics or statistics or applied mathematics with a focus of empirical work will find this project engaging. Daily tasks may include data analysis, writing programs and reviewing, designing and revising the programs working on theoretical problems. RAs support the project with quantitative analysis, documentation and data descriptions, and programming. The RA will get office space in or near the economics department at Yale.
All candidates should exhibit an interest in our research and must be able to contribute one or more of the skills listed below. Newly-hired RAs must commit 35-40 hours per week during the summer and regular semester throughout the year. Someone who is diligent and responsible is a must, and they will be closely supervised by Sun Kyoung Lee. We are looking for post-undergraduate candidates who intend to pursue a PhD in Economics or related field. A Bachelor’s degree in economics or relevant major(s) is required.
