Position description

The Medill School at Northwestern University invites applications for a faculty position in Journalism beginning in September 2022, or earlier. This is a teaching-track position, open rank.

Successful candidates will be outstanding and experienced journalism professionals with expertise in politics, policy and foreign affairs. We’re looking for a candidate to inspire and educate Medill students, manage our graduate-level specialization in politics, policy and foreign affairs, teach D.C.-based journalism classes, and help develop strategic alliances in the news industry and in the Washington media community to showcase student work. An ability to raise money/apply for grants and manage subsequent budgets is a plus.

This position requires teaching graduate and undergraduate students. Experience in a university classroom is helpful. Experience in federal government or national political reporting, writing and/or editing is strongly preferred. Strong candidates will demonstrate not only a track record for producing high-impact work, but also the potential to serve as a public thought leader on matters of prominence related to journalism and politics. Based in D.C., this opportunity allows for continued outside work in the field of journalism.

An advanced degree is preferred, but not required.

Northwestern University is a federal contractor that actively participates in affirmative action planning in the areas of recruitment and retention. For each employment and promotional opportunity, Northwestern University actively seeks women, minorities, veterans, and persons with disabilities to maintain a University community that is based on equal opportunity and reflects the diversity of American society. Hiring is contingent on eligibility to work in the United States.
