Position description

BA/BS and at least 5 years of experience or advanced degree and 3 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience in public affairs related social sciences equal to nine years.

Experience with data collective, data management, and statistical analysis (SPSS, Stata, or R, etc.)

Effective technical writing and presentation skills, including ability to clearly summarize, synthesize, and communicate information effectively and in a timely manner

Organizational skills and ability to multitask to manage demands of multiple projects and partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

An earned master’s degree in public-affairs related social sciences (public administration and policy, economics, political science, urban studies, etc.) and 2 years of relevant experience;

Experience with data collective, data management, and statistical analysis (SPSS, Stata, or R, etc.)

Experience of working with state and local governments

Familiar with policy issues related to infrastructure development

Understanding public sector budgeting processes and financial reports

Ability to conduct GIS analysis and data visualization

Institute for Urban & Regional Infrastructure Finance (IURIF)

Responsibilities:

Institute for Urban & Regional Infrastructure Finance (IURIF) is a newly created research center focusing on policy issues related to urban infrastructure finance from a regional perspective. We look for a research associate who can conduct applied policy research and also play some role in coordinating IURIF’s communication and outreach activities to support its mission.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

Research Support (70%):

The research associate will be responsible for:
(a) coordinating data collection, analysis, and dissemination activities of the Minnesota Transportation Finance Database;
(b) participating in IURIF’s one or several research projects on budgeting practices, infrastructure finance, or the economic impacts of infrastructure investment;  
(c) overseeing IURIF’s other research activities including training, data collection, analysis and dissemination via reports, presentations, and publications;
(d) assisting IURIF’s ongoing grant-writing activities to raise research funding for future years.

Management (30%)

The Research Associate will coordinate the communication effort of IURIF through its website, social media accounts, or other venues.
