World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s leading conservation organization, seeks a Program Officer at our Washington, DC office.Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, International Corporate Climate Partnerships (ICCP), the Program Officer, International Corporate Climate Partnerships, supports the day-to-day implementation of international corporate climate work under the WWF-US climate & energy strategy. The ICCP program focuses on creating and scaling high impact corporate-related initiatives to accelerate a low-carbon transition in a manner that helps governments meet, or exceed, their national commitments under the Paris Agreement. The program works closely with companies, WWF offices in priority markets, and other stakeholders to promote action beyond the United States. The program’s current priority markets are Mexico, India and China.
- Strategy & Planning: Contributes to the development of WWF-US strategies, work plans, and budgets related to international corporate climate partnerships.
- Corporate Climate Engagement: Supports the day-to-day engagement by WWF-US with U.S. corporations on international climate and energy issues. Works closely with the Private Sector Engagement, U.S. Low-Carbon Transition, and International Climate Cooperation teams at WWF-US to advance an integrated approach to corporate climate engagement in priority international markets.
- WWF Network Engagement: Supports the day-to-day engagement by WWF-US with country offices and international program teams within the WWF Network on corporate climate action, and in particular, in the priority international markets. Collaborates with the International Climate Cooperation team at WWF-US to ensure that the approach to corporate climate engagement is consistent with the broader international climate cooperation goals and strategies, including the development of domestic alliances of non-state actors in support of the Paris Agreement.
- Research and subject matter expertise: Conducts research and develops background, knowledge, and other briefing materials, as needed, in support of the international corporate climate partnerships work. Keeps abreast of markets developments in the priority international markets, including key corporate actions, policy and regulatory developments, and activities by NGOs and other stakeholders.
- Key Existing Climate Initiatives: Supports the day-to-day engagement by WWF-US in global corporate climate partnerships, including the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance, Climate Solvers and the Science-Based Targets Initiative.
- Fundraising: Contributes to the development and implementation of fundraising strategies, identifies funding opportunities, cultivates donors, and, in cooperation with the Development Team at WWF-US, prepares funding proposals and reports to donors.
- External Representation: Represents WWF-US in external engagements with businesses, governments, civil society organizations, and cities and other non-state actors to advance WWF-US climate & energy strategy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required
- A graduate degree in a related field is preferred, such as sustainability management, international relations, environmental economics, government policy, international development, environmental science, environmental policy, conservation policy, or natural resources management
- Position requires a minimum of four years of experience in a related field.
- Subject expertise in one to all of the following climate and energy sub-fields fields is an added asset: renewable electricity policy, carbon markets, corporate climate strategy, sustainable supply chain management, carbon accounting, climate economics, and international climate finance
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Ability to operate with independence, under pressure, to meet deadlines and commitments
- Ability to work easily with and communicate effectively with persons from a variety of backgrounds and representing a variety of stakeholder groups is essential
- Ability to work on initiatives with multiple and competing priorities
- Team player and good interpersonal skills
- Experience working or living in Mexico, India or China is an added asset but not required.
- Professional fluency in Spanish or Mandarin is an added asset but not required.
