Position description

The International Convention Development Manager is responsible for developing international business for the Washington, DC metropolitan area as a convention destination; this includes in-house and convention center business. This position will identify, research and develop viable international association bid opportunities as well as manage Destination DC's conference Ambassador Circle program. This position will engage with a variety of key stakeholders including association executives, professional congress organizers, hotel community and industry/field experts such as researchers, doctors, and professors.

DUTIES

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but are not limited to)

1 .Conduct, analyze and create intelligence reports for international association research with the aim of identifying viable bid opportunities for Washington, DC

2. Manage the outreach to international associations, professional congress organizers and/or potential local hosts and maintain an up-to-date database/bid development tracking report

3. Create and manage an active conference Ambassador Circle program including conducting research connecting international associations to local members and organizations, maintaining a database with industry sector alignments, defining recruitment strategy and engagement campaigns, and organize educational/social events for the Ambassador Circle

4. Provide support throughout the bid process including drafting of letters of intent, soliciting letters of support and/or invitation, developing industry/sector overviews, and project management for the creation of the bid document/books and bid presentations

5. Assist with educational events, workshops and meetings for local hosts/Ambassadors and members

6. Coordinate and oversee as assigned customer site inspections and familiarization trips (FAMs), including the outreach to solicit sponsorship and hosting of airline, hotel, tour/attraction, restaurant and service provider partners

7. Assist with qualifying, processing and sourcing leads/inquiries as well as tentative lead follow-up

8. Required to attend the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) annual congress and may be required to assist the direct sales effort by attending international and domestic sales missions, trade shows, industry conferences and bid presentations

9. Maintain advanced product knowledge of the destination including the area (attractions, restaurants, climate, etc.), convention center, hotels and services

10. Maintain awareness of industry trends, current events, and competing cities (i.e. through trade journals, periodicals, and industry participation)

11. Assist with managing stakeholder relationships to ensure adequate account servicing for clients, partners/members and local organizations such as chambers of commerce, universities, etc.

12. Create presentations, compile data and research for the purpose of presenting to Events DC and other stakeholders

13. Execute all other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, International Sales

Qualifications

Experience, Competencies & Education

1. Minimum two (2) years of industry experience in related field, preferably convention bureau/destination marketing organizations, hotel/venue sales and/or convention services

2. Preferred one to two (1-2) years of international experience in association management, professional congress organizer and/or non-profit membership management

3. Bachelor's Degree (B.S. /B.A.) from four-year college or university in management, sales, marketing or related field

4. Superior organizational, project and time management skills with strong attention to detail

5. Ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals are essential

6. Ability to read, analyze, articulate and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and industry trends

7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to draft succinct yet persuasive solicitation and deliver engaging presentations

8. Willingness to work evenings and weekends, sometimes with short notice

9. Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%

10. Extensive knowledge of and enthusiasm for the destination

11. Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office and destination management/customer relationship management software systems required

12. Fluency in other languages will be considered an asset

1.Annual goals accountability as determined by the Sales leadership.

2.Periodic performance evaluations gauging quantitative and qualitative performance against identified goals.
