Position description

ASIS International, the world’s largest membership organization for security management professionals, is offering an exciting opportunity for a talented storyteller, writer, and editor to join our editorial team as Managing Editor of our award-winning magazine, Security Management.

The Managing Editor will plan, coordinate, and direct all editorial duties—from concept through proofreading—for Security Management and its related products, including Security Technology and SM online, as well as materials developed through the organization’s content strategy. The Managing Editor is responsible for developing magazine strategy in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief. The Managing Editor will manage and mentor a staff of editors and work collaboratively with design, production, and advertising staff, as well as with ASIS non-Publishing staff, to produce world-class publications.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree (B. Must have experience managing or providing leadership to staff or contract employees. Preference will be given to candidates with a master’s in Journalism, experience with a magazine or other publication covering security, law enforcement, crime, or business issues; at least two years working at a professional association; or at least 2 years of experience working in a managerial capacity with a diverse team.

Our ideal candidate will possess superior organizational skills, attention to detail, writing and editing abilities, a journalistic “nose for news”, and the courage to innovate. Will have eagerness to mentor/nurture staff and develop talent and a collaborative attitude towards Publishing staff, ASIS staff, ASIS members, and other stakeholders. Strong problem-solving, networking, small-team presentation, and facilitation skills a must. Successful candidates will have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and facility with Internet research. Facility with video editing and Podcasting software a plus!
