NNSC is seeking a full-time, New York City-based Director to oversee our international violence reduction work. NNSC’s International portfolio was officially launched in 2017. In a short period of time, the International team has established multi-year partnerships in Mexico and Sweden. The IIT has also completed analytic work in El Salvador and has a range of ongoing exploratory conversations with countries as diverse as Australia, Colombia, Brazil and South Africa. The National Network for Safe Communities at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (NNSC) focuses on supporting cities implementing proven strategic interventions to reduce violence and improve public safety, minimize arrest and incarceration, strengthen communities, and improve relationships between law enforcement and the communities it serves.

The Director is responsible for leading engagement in international locations from inception through to regular support and management. The position is a member of the NNSC senior leadership team, led by David Kennedy. Major duties and responsibilities include:

We are looking for a highly-organized individual with experience setting strategic direction. The ideal candidate is experienced and well established in the violence prevention, peace-building or criminal justice field. This includes having a demonstrated network, professional background, and an established reputation in the field of international violence reduction. The ideal candidate is able to lead strategic planning for the program and staff growth and development. They are also able to develop policies, processes, procedures and practices that contribute to the direction, health and well-being of the NNSC. The ideal candidate is able to work collaboratively, give and receive feedback and constructive criticism, and be flexible and adaptable. They have a proven commitment to supporting peaceful, healthy communities. They also have a proven track record of and interest in working with a diverse range of actors and demonstrated success in organizing and leading new projects in partnership with other stakeholders. This experience includes effectively managing international projects, interdisciplinary teams and coordinating among multiple collaborative structures. Excellent written and oral communication skills and being detailed oriented, persistent, and optimistic are also important.
